Born in Cyprus to a father expelled from Jaffa in 1948, Dr. Al Shami has spent her life in Gaza, teaching mathematics at the Islamic University, building a home, raising a family. But on October 7th, everything changed.<\/p>\n<p>She recounts the sound of over a thousand rockets at dawn, the relentless bombing that shattered every window in her house, the nights spent sheltering as neighborhoods vanished around her.<br \/>\nShe speaks of her brother, found buried under rubble months later.
