Living under the consequences of sin left them spiritually discouraged and disconnected from God’s presence, focusing more on their own plans than His covenant, miracles, and faithfulness. The sins of their forefathers created a cycle of spiritual decline that left the nation weary and struggling to remember who God truly was. This message is a warning not to get caught in the cycle or be torn down by what others before you have gone through, and a reminder from Isaiah 40 that even after generations of failure, God had not forgotten His people and was still calling them back to trust Him.
